From Mayor Buist-CCEMS

Fellow Mendon Residents,

I wish to address a concern brought to our attention. We have received many comments and concerns about the new CCEMS fee being assessed on the utility (water) bill. Beginning January 1, 2021 Logan City departed the county wide emergency management services. For years, there was no fee for this service passed on to county residents. But that burden got too heavy for Logan City, so they subsequently have pulled away and now are serving only themselves and Providence and North Logan (who have contracted with them). This has left Mendon and the rest of the valley to “fend” for themselves. We have joined in with the other valley south end communities and Cache County to form the new Cache County Emergency Management Services. The comes with a cost. That is the $5 fee that has been assessed. It goes to provide our community with ambulance service and EMS and paramedic service. We actually have an ambulance station in our Mendon Fire Station now.

As a side note, this has been discussed several times in city council meetings. It has been posted at the city office and post office as well as sent out in utility bill envelopes for information to the community.

Please feel free to call the city office (435)753-3449 with questions regarding this or anything else.

Regards,

Ed Buist

Mendon City Mayor
