E. Coli detected in Hyrum Dam

Mayor Buist received word today that E. Coli has been detected in Hyrum Dam Water. The Wellsville-Mendon Canal Company receives its’ water from Hyrum Dam and may be impacted. Wellsville-Mendon Canal water users are cautioned to avoid physical contact with canal water and to use the secondary water source carefully. Please alert children especially to avoid playing in the water. People should avoid watering gardens to avoid contact with fruits and vegetables. Mendon City is monitoring the situation and will provide additional information to our citizens and neighbors as more information becomes available. Please pass the word.
