May Day Celebration

Event Details

May Day is a community spring celebration. An annual event on the first Saturday in May that has been celebrated going back to 1863. The tradition is rich with history and celebrates springtime and the privilege of living in such a beautiful place. Young girls in their matching dresses dance the traditional dance steps around the May Poles and sing the songs celebrating spring and the Queen of the May.  

ATTENTION

May Day will be on May 4th, 2024 at 10:00am this year.

Practices will be held at Mountainside Elementary on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays starting at 3:40pm – 4:30pm.  The first practice begins Tuesday March 26th with no practice the week of spring break.  Questions please email KaDee Rawlinson at mendonmayday@gmail.com

Friday Night Dance at Mountainside Elementary from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m.

If will begin with introducing the 2024 May Day Court and then a floor show. All are invited to attend the dance!

Saturday morning on the town square at 10:00 a.m. is the entrance of the Queen’s Court and the braiding of the Maypoles. Following will be the traditional program inside the old church.

There are youth coed softball games from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. and hopefully the burger stand will be open!
